How to Keep Physicians on Schedule

With the rise of managed care, doctors are required to see more patients in a day than they did a generation ago. This can lead to long wait times, rushed visits, and overall less satisfied patients – not to mention doctors who feel like they’re working on an assembly line. Here are several ways to make your schedule run more smoothly.

Standardize the schedule – Though many providers only want to work on “their” schedule, attempt to standardize the schedule and minimize changes as much as possible. This will lower the number of errors and reduce they disruption that proprietary schedules can cause. Providers may not like this at first, but a smooth schedule makes both doctors and patients happy.

Summertime at your Practice

Summertime can be a hot and slow time of year for many people around the United States.  A lot of businesses slow down in the summer and the heat can make people feel tired and uncomfortable which can lead to short tempers and very little motivation in a lot of us. Being the practice manager, it is your responsibility to try to keep your practice in a light and happy state so your patients will feel relaxed and confident while visiting their doctor.  Many times in a physicians practice we do not realize  the staff’s attitude and how they interact with the patient has the biggest impact on their overall perspective of their visit.

It is a truism in life: “The little things add up.”  For the Office Manager trying to wrestle with a medical practice’s bottomline, it is adage to keep in mind.  There are many areas where a practice may be leaking money, and as Office Manager you may be able to plug some of them up.
